Vattenfall "fails" on renewable energy

Publicerad 28 nov 2012 · kl 11:40

Renewable energy falls second to fossil fuels at the state energy giant Vattenfall, despite the company's promises to increase renewable production. Only a 1 percent increase has been noted, while a 200 percent hike by 2015 has been promised, according to the magazine Ny Teknik.

Vattenfall is spending less of its total budget on solar panels, wind turbines and hydropower than six years ago.

Little has come of a promise to deliver more renewable energy from 2006 to 2015, made six years ago. The increase in hours of electricity produced in Sweden is just over 1 percent, in contrast to the 200 percent increase that has been promised in three years' time.

Instead, the budget share Vattenfall spends on fossil-based energy production has risen by over 60 percent.

On a related story, Swedish Radio reports that Norway is buying more renewable energy certificates as a result of a collaboration in the field between the two countries. Up to 200 million SEK of certificates have been sold to Norway during 2012.
