Princess Estelle's christening is expected to follow tradition
While Sweden's newborn Princess Estelle may look forward to an unusually high number of godparents, her baptism is otherwise expected to follow tradition, reports news agency TT.
The guest list is sure to include the families of both her parents, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, along with representatives from Parliament, the government, the military, the church, cultural and business arenas, and European royalty, according to editor in chief of Kungliga Magasinet, Roger Lundgren.
Lundgren says baptisms traditionally take place at Slottskyrkan, the church at the royal palace, which can accommodate between 400 and 500 guests.
He believes the event will probably take place sometime between June 6 and midsummer.
While the Crown Princess and her siblings have four godparents each, Lundgren says that will not suffice this time. He believes Prince Daniel's sister, Anna, along with Crown Princess Victoria's brother, Prince Carl Philip, will be chosen. Lundgren believes Sweden's strong connection with the Norwegian and Danish royal houses also merits a godparent from each. Moreover, Lundgren says there is an unwritten agreement between Sweden and the Netherlands to assign godparents to each other's royals.
The water for the baptism will come from either the Jordan river – which has been used for most of the Bernadotte royals, or from a source on Öland, according to Lundgren.
