Combating overcrowding
Bigger fines for hospitals

The Swedish Work Environment Authority is cracking down on hospitals failing to deal with overcrowding, with threats of fines worth hundreds of thousands of US$ for those putting patients' beds in the corridors or in storage and examination rooms.
The authority says penalties handed out over the last few years have been too lenient and that hospitals have not dealt with the discomfort of the patients and the stress on the staff because of overcrowding.
