Swedes Lose Davis Cup Tie

Publicerad 8 mar 2010 · kl 08:35

Sweden have failed to make it through to the quarter finals of the Davis Cup after losing their tie against Argentina 3-2 in Stockholm.

Trailing 2-1 overnight, Robin Söderling won his reverse singles match on Sunday to levels the scores at 2-2 and set up an exciting final rubber between Sweden's Andreas Vinciguerra and David Nalbandian, who was a late addition to the Argentinian team having only just recovered from a muscle tear in his leg.

Going into the match, the Argentine, one of the best players in the world, had a 27-9 career Davis Cup record (17-4 in singles) in 16 ties, and he had too much for the lowly ranked Swede and won the rubber in four sets 7-5 6-3 4-6 6-4.

Argentina will now play Russia in the last 8.
